are playing in my basement. Tomorrow night. It’s going to be a huge show… for our house at least. I’m gonna guess that we’ll have 150 people crammed into our subterranean performance space, Amor Fou. As some of you may know, I’ve been infatuated with Starfucker since June 2007, back when it was just Josh Hodges sending out homemade CDR EPs from his apartment. Tomorrow night, they’re trying out their new fourth band mate. I helped set ’em up with one show in town already last year at the Phoenix House. Anyway, I’m delighted that they’d still consider to play our basement when they are regularly packing people into double showings at the Doug Fir and the Wonder Ballroom in Portland and The Vera Project in Seattle. Needless to say, I have a lot of Portlanders and Seattleites messaging the ABC House Myspace page which I manage (yes, I know) to get directions to our place. Desolation Wilderness has their own in town following as they are a bit of an Olympia All Star band. They’re also on K Records. Experimental Dental School was just on tour with Deerhoof. Deerhoof! Experimental Dental School is going on a European tour in April. I’ve heard wonderful things about them and can’t wait to see them play. All three bands are going to SXSW this year, so I consider this my personal Pacific Northwest showcase of emerging talent.
I have a student/ Oly All Ages volunteer running sound for me, another friend doing the door, and a couple more people to help me keep an eye on the property and the crowd in case the cops get called on us.
I feel like the luckiest person in the world right now. My complete music nerdiness fandom has finally paid off. A lot of people are going to have an amazing night and have amazing memories, earning the right to say, “Yeah, well I saw ’em play this BASEMENT show one time back in 2009…”
And it’s all because of me. And, better yet, no one will ever know.
