I didn’t get around to posting this in a timely manner here on the bloggy blog, but this is what July looked like at Northern. We’re having a closing reception at the space for artist Arrington de Dionyso this Friday from 5 – 8pm and then at 9pm, he’ll be performing with his new band.
From the press release:
Northern is pleased to present Root and Crown, an installation by visual and recording artist Arrington de Dionyso on view through July 26. Well known as the principle songwriter and frontman of Old Time Relijun on Olympia’s K Records and for his experimental solo performances, de Dionyso is also a renowned visual artist. His work has been exhibited in galleries nationally and internationally including Les Mains d’Oeuvres gallery in Paris, France, Pickled Art Center in Beijing, China and Disjecta in Portland, Oregon among many others. He is represented by Atelier Cardenas Bellanger in Paris.
Drawn with charcoal directly on Northern’s gallery walls, de Dionyso figures of demons and angels loom life size throughout the space. His gesturative line quality understates a sense of urgency while still conveying a primal, otherworldly and mythical narrative.
