I’ve been fan of Marc Maron’s WTF podcast for years. I appreciate his candor in discussing personal struggles with depression, creativity, consciousness building, career expectations, self-loathing and self-destructive tendencies because I’ve experienced, and continue to experience, many of these same struggles in life. At the end of the December, he interviewed comedian Bill Burr. It Continue Reading »

Goodbye, 2015. I will not miss you. This was an exceptionally difficult year with few highlights. In May, I completed the Professional Printer Training Program at Tamarind, which was somewhat underwhelming. In April, I lost Alabama, my 13 year old cat, to congestive heart failure and endured the singular most difficult day of my life in the wake Continue Reading »

Back in October, a group of Tamarind students woke at 3AM, climbed into cars and onto bikes, arriving before dawn to Balloon Fiesta Park for the opening weekend of the annual Balloon Fiesta. There, along with thousands of spectators, we witnessed the launch of hundreds of hot air balloons into the twilight sky. Once the rays of the Continue Reading »

On August 23, the Tamarind Adventure Club enjoyed its very first daring adventure: searching for a trail that I’m still pretty sure doesn’t actually exist, encountering wild horses, hiking into the BLM backcountry on a dirt road followed by a truck with rifles sticking out its window, climbing a gorgeous sandstone mesa in the scorching Continue Reading »

Ozette Loop, Washington Coast, June 20- 21, 2014

My final backpacking trip in Washington before I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico was one of my favorites. A nine mile trek, the Ozette Loop trail took us from Lake Ozette through a coastal forest and thickets to some of the wildest coastline in Washington. This hike had it all– sea stacks, bald eagles, whales, seals, and Continue Reading »

Wupatki National Monument, The Grand Canyon and Sedona

In October 2013, I was invited to give a lecture about my work to students and faculty at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. It was a wonderful experience. NAU has well cared for facilities and Flagstaff and the surrounding area is an adventurer’s dream. Here are images from an overnight to the Grand Canyon, including Continue Reading »
